After many years in search of quality in not only my essential oils, but in
herbal supplements, I have chosen Young Living Essential Oils products.
The founder, D. Gary Young (who is one of the foremost
authorities on essential oils in North America), has not only the education
and experience to produce the purest and highest quality products, but also
has a strong, personal reason.
Young Living Essential Oils came into existence through
Don Gary Young, a very unusual and visionary man who, through the most
amazing circumstances, finds himself teaching seminars, formulating in his
laboratory, plowing the fields on his tractor, designing and building
equipment for the farm operations, training his horses to pull a plow, and
running a multi-million dollar business.
He grew up in the mountains of central Idaho with no
electricity or running water, where he and his brothers and sisters were
taught by their parents how to live from the earth.
On February 8, 1973, at age 24, Gary had a terrible
logging accident that resulted in multiple fractures, was in a coma for 3
weeks, and in intensive care for four months.... the medical diagnosis was
"irreversible paralysis." According to the medical experts, he would be
condemned to a wheelchair and in intolerable pain.....for life.
After two years Gary experience inconceivable pain,
depression, drug dependency, and three failed suicide attempts. The last
suicide attempt was to eat nothing but juices in an attempt to starve
himself. But a funny thing began to happen around the 256th day, he had
tingling in his feet. This was the beginning of a life long career into
alternative healing, with an emphasis on the ancient traditions of healing.
Rejecting the previous medical diagnosis, he began his
search for natural ways to heal his body. This search led him to studies in
the sciences of acupuncture, anesthesiology, hematology, medicine, and
pathology, as well as earning certifications in herbology, massage, ortho-molecular
cell therapy, and lymphology, a Master's degree in Nutrition, and a
Doctorate in Naturopathy. And, 13 years later with great determination, he
ran a half-marathon and finished 60th out of 970 participants (See Wisdom of

After receiving a Master's in Nutrition and a Doctorate
in Naturopathy, he opened a family practice in Chula Vista, California, and
a research clinic in Mexico where he could do research in the areas of
natural healing. His work in Mexico was of such magnitude that in 1985 he
received the Humanitarian Award from the State Medical Examiner's Office of
Baja California (one of only six ever awarded) for his research and
successful treatment of degenerative disease.
Dr. Young pioneered the field of blood crystallization,
and helped advance and enlighten the study of the blood in its relationship
to bacteria and viruses. He has many other special honors, including
becoming the first American member of the International Federation of Aroma
therapists, headquarter in the Royal Masonic Hospital of London.
This was the first step towards an amazing new
discovery...the healing power of properly distilled, pure, unadulterated
essential oils. In 1985, he was invited to a seminar at the Medical
University in Geneva Switzerland, taught by the medical doctors Jean Claude
Lapraz and Paul Duraffourd. There he received life changing information on
the healing properties of essential oils.
He later went back to Switzerland, and trained in the
medical application of essential oils under Jean Claude Lapraz, M.D., at the
Medical University in Geneva. From there, he went on to Paris to study with
Paul Belaiche, M.D. (one of two leading French physicians teaching the
chemical properties of essential oils).
Dr. Young then went on to England to do research at the
Warwick University, the University of London, the British Museum Library,
and the Library of London, as well as to study with Daniel Penoel, M.D. (who
was the student of Jean Valet, M.D., the first medical doctor to research
and write about the medical application of essential oils).It was in this
clinic where he was introduced to essential oils, which started him in the
direction that he continues today.
And finally, for the last three years, Gary has studied
at the Cairo University, under Radwan Farag, Ph.D., who is the head of
biochemistry, has written 92 research papers on essential oils (he
documented the oil's oxygenating molecular activity, and discovered their
antioxidant and anti-microbial activity), and has received more awards than
any other human being in this field
Gary loves the challenge of research and discovery, which
has driven him deep into the history of early medicine and essential oils.
He goes from the ruins of ancient Egypt to the archaeology archives of the
Hebrew University in Jerusalem to the British Museum Library in London to
his own laboratory and now, today, to the chemistry department at Weber
State University to prove the validity of this ancient science. It is an
exciting adventure for those who love the discovery of truth.
I n November of 1995 Gary was invited to speak at the
UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) International
Congress on Essential Oils held in Eskeshehir, Turkey. He presented research
that is being conducted on the Young Living Blends and Single oils at Weber
State University and on organic farming and plant germination at the farm in
Idaho. His work was received with tremendous enthusiasm and many who
attended showed great interest in what we are doing as a means for improving
their economics.
Today Gary Young oversees his meticulously organic farms
in Utah (1,600 acres), Idaho (160 acres) and France, he supervises the
distillation of many of his essential oils himself, as well as buying
directly from distilleries in order to avoid the above mentioned inferior
oils.
Gary states, "We begin with the pure seeds and take them
all the way through growing, harvesting, distilling, formulating, packaging
and marketing in order to know what we have and can stand behind the
production and quality. At the Young Living Research Farm in Idaho, I built
4 different distillers, and the largest and only stainless steel vertical
steam distiller in North America. After building the first two, I invented a
steam decompression chamber and manifold that delivers the steam at ZERO

The soil (of Gary's farms and the contracted growers
soil) is carefully inspected to be certain it is free of all pesticides and
other chemicals, then prepared by injecting liquid enzymes and microbes into
the soil so the plants can get nutrients out of the soil. This technique of
feeding the plants by putting the organic nutrients into the soils are
gaining recognition worldwide. One of the very significant side affects of
this type of organic growing is that the plants are healthy and able to
resist disease.
After the plants are distilled, Gary still goes one step
further. Using a chromatogram, Gary can verify that all the healing
constituents are intact, and have not been damaged during distillation. Any
distilled oil that does not test up to Dr. Young's strict standards are
never sold to the public.
If you have ever worked with essential oils but did not
have positive results, it is probable that the oils were inferior,
improperly distilled (thereby fracturing the healing constituents), and/or
adulterated with synthetic chemicals. While Gary grows and distills his oils
under the strict guidelines given above, his dedication to easing the
suffering of others through sharing his education, research, essential oils
and supplements with the world is the true gage of a manufacturer who will
respect not only the quality of the essential oils, but also your life and
