Are Toxic Allergies Killing You?
I covered the subject of homeostasis in detail in the
Your Body Is Not The Enemy!. Briefly, homeostasis is defined as, " The
ability of an organism (such as your body) to maintain equilibrium by
adjusting its physiological functioning."
The first time you drank alcohol (a chemical poison to
your body) you probably felt drunk on just one or two drinks. After being
a veteran drinkers for a couple of years, you may be able to drink 4 to 8
drinks before feeling really drunk.
The more you drink, the more your body can tolerate
because of homeostasis.
Because of homeostasis, many people believe that they
are "strong" and won't have a problem with what they eat, drink, smell or
Think back to the first time you smelled gasoline or a
new carpet. It probably made you feel queasy or dizzy, and you may have
gotten a headache. However, as time went on and you stopped noticing any
physical reaction to these chemicals, you might have thought you had
"build up a resistance" to them. Wrong!
Homeostasis is the body's ability to adapt to poisons,
but it takes tremendous resources.
It takes enzymes to metabolize and detoxify, which
depletes vitamins and minerals. When there is a heavy load on the colon,
liver and immune system, you may be more susceptible to viral and
bacterial infections. In the meantime, your body may be so busy
detoxifying toxic chemicals that it begins to neglect other functions,
like protecting you from cancer and other
One of the interesting facts about homeostasis is that
it is extremely effective in its ability to balance/mask reactions to
chemicals and toxins.
When someone first starts drinking coffee they
generally feel nauseated and hyper. As time goes on, these symptoms
When they decide to quit drinking coffee, they may
experience 2 or 3 days of a bad headache and fatigue as the body
re-adjusts to the absence of these toxins. Prior to this, they may not
even have known that their body was so toxic with the chemicals in they
coffee they were drinking every day.
When a person decides to go on a detoxification program
they generally have what has been labeled as a "healing crisis."
Again, as the body pulling toxins out of the tissues,
metabolizing and eliminating them, then finally to adjusting to life
Most people experience symptoms such as dizziness,
headaches and nausea. These symptoms generally don't last for more than a
week, and I feel are a small price to pay to get rid of the stored
So in a sense, while homeostasis allows us to adapt
to immediate environmental poisons, on a long term basis is also masks the
deeper problem. By the time we are experiencing chemical allergy symptoms,
and/or secondary disorders, we may already have serious chemical damage.
This is why I talk so much about detoxification
throughout this manual. If you don't remember or do anything else, I hope
you will adopt a
detoxification program, and repeat it a minimum of once per year.
